Joe was born and raised in Vancouver attending John Oliver High School, UBC and BCIT. He met Eloise Dunbar, a native Nanaimoite and thought Nanaimo would be the perfect spot to raise their family. He was right. Eloise and Joe have two great children, Christy and John. They attended Seaview Elementary in Lantzville and then Dover Bay Secondary in Nanaimo.
Joe is an active member of his community being involved in a number of volunteer organizations, service clubs and local politics. He knows Lantzville well as he has worked on the official community plan and is a third term councillor.
Joe is a Charter member of the Lanztville Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Nanaimo Squash club, Nanaimo Yacht Club, Nanaimo Curling Club, Vancouver Island Regional Library board and executive committee, past member of the Lantzville volunteer fire department, past trustee and chairman of the Lantzville Improvement District.
He believes in supporting local charities such as Dragon Boating, Childrens Miracle Network, Nanaimo Silly Boat Races, Cancer Run for Cure, Lantzville Rotary golf for a cure, Parksville Beach Festival and numerous minor sports organizations including the Nanaimo Pirates Baseball program.
