This former industrial area, minutes to downtown Vancouver, is best known for housing the Olympic Village during the 2010 Winter Games. Bounded by Cambie Bridge to the west, Main Street to the east, West 2nd Avenue to the south and False Creek to the north, South East False Creek has been designed to be one of the most sustainable communities in North America, including such things as urban agriculture, a rainwater management system, green roofs, and a neighbourhood energy system. When fully completed, Southeast False Creek will be a high-density mix-use community, with a focus on residential housing for families. All of the necessary amenities such as shops like Urban fare and London Drugs, and transit access are within close walking distance. As well, a community centre, green-spaces, child-care centres and an elementary school will all help to meet the needs of this growing community. The winding seawall allows pedestrians and cyclists to get some spectacular views of downtown Vancouver. Southeast False Creek will truly be a model community for other eco-friendly residential developments.
